We picked a hotel just south of the Acropolis, and within walking distance of all the antiquities and the shopping/eating areas. Beyond the Acropolis to the west, is the Agora, the old Greek and Roman market area, where there are lots of remains to wander through, a nicely preserved Byzantyne church and a very well preserved temple. |

the north of the Agora is the Monasteraki area with restaurants and
market
stalls. East of the Acropolis is Hadrian's Arch and beyond that, the
remains of
the Temple to Zeus. A good day out is to take the train from Syntagma Square, or any of the other stops en route, down to the coast at Edem, and along the coast as far as Glyfada. |

A
very popular area for tourists is the Plaka, north west of the
Acropolis,
Hopefully most of these shops are still in business, it is a great
place for
both eating and shopping.
